Planets are related to one another in five ways. Adhimitra (most intimate friendship), Mitra (friend), Neutral, Enemy, Adhishatru (most bitter enmity). A planet occupying the sign of its friend gives good results but when placed in the sign of its enemy, it is incapable of giving full results.

Sun treats Moon as adhimitra, Mercury as friend, Mars and Jupiter as neutral, Venus as enemy and Saturn as bitter enemy. How Sun and other planets treat one another is indicated in the table on page 50.

Temporary Friendship ‑ Apart from permanent friendship between planets their temporary friendship should also be looked into. A planet is friendly to the places that are 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th or 12th for; it is inimical to the places 1st, 5th, 6th 7th, 8th and 9th from ft.

Strength of Planets ‑ In examining a natives’ horoscope regard is paid to the strength of planets. This strength is six fold.

(i) Positional Strength ‑ A planet that is exalted in a friendly sign or decante is called strong in positional (Sthan) strength. Moon and Venus have positional strength in Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Aquarius while Sun, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn are strong in Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra Sagittarius and Aquarius.

(ii) Dig or Directional Strength ‑ Mercury and Jupiter in the ascendant, Venus and Moon in the 4th house, Saturn In the 7th house, and Sun and Mars in the 10th house get directional strength.

(iii) Kala or Temporal Strength ‑ In the horoscope of a native born during the night, Moon, Saturn and Mars are considered as endowed with this type of strength while in the horoscope of one born during the day time, the same is possessed by Sun, Mercury and Venus.

(iv) Naisarglk or Permanent Strength ‑ In this type of strength Saturn, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Moon and Sun have it In ascending order i.e. Saturn Is the least strong and Sun the highest in strength.

(v) Drig or Aspect Strength ‑ All planets that are ascpected by  natural benefic planets possess this strength.

(VI) Cheshta or Motional Strength ‑ If Sun and Moon, or Moon and Mars, or Moon and Mercury or Moon and Jupiter, or Moon and Venus or Moon and Saturn are located in any of the signs Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces.

Aries, Taurus or Gemini they are considered as possessing this strength. A strong planet gives results according to its nature

Every planet as”. the house 7th to it with full aspect, the house 3rd and 1 10th  from it with 1/4th of its aspect, the house 5th and 9th from it with 1/2th of its aspect, and the house 4th + 8thfrom it with  3/4th of its aspect. But Mars has additional full aspecton the 4th and 8th house from it, Jupiter has additional full aspect on houses 5th and 9th from it and Saturn has the additional full aspect on houses 3rd and I 10th from it

In the horoscope whatever planet is occupying a lead or debilitation house, the metal or precious stone relating to it should be worn.

When a planet is in bad house, weak, debilitated, or in an enmical sign, there is the likelihood of the following diseases in its dasha or sub‑periods.

(i) The lord of a house is the planet that Is lord of the sign placed in that house.

(ii) The lords of the 6th, 8th and the 12th houses harm the prospects of the house in which they may be located.

(iii) A planet in dignity i.e., occupying its own sign enhances the prospect of the house in which located.

(iv) A house containing a natural benefic planet gives good results in regard to the traits of that house while a house containing a natural malefic planet gives bad results thereof.

(v) All planets give good results in the 11th house.

(A) Natural benefic planets when located in first, fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth houses give good results.

(vii) Natural malefic in the 3rd, 6th and 11th houses give good results.

(viii) A planet influences the house which it aspects.

Besides, regard is to be had to the fact whether a planet is a benefic or a malefic one.

Benefic planets are: Moon, Mercury, Venus, Ketu, and Jupiter are benefices, in ascending order i.e., Jupiter being the most benefic.

Malefic planets are: Sun, Mars, Saturn and Rahu are malefic in the ascending order, i.e. Rahu is most malefic. It has to be considered as to how many exalted or debilitated planets there are in a birth‑chart. The table shows on page No. 49 the particular degree of a specific sign in which a particular planet becomes most exalted or most debilitated.

The above table needs a careful study. lf a native has Sun in Aries, the Sun will be considered as exalted or occupying his sign of exaltation. The Sun is exalted only in the first 10 degrees of Aries and not in the remaining degrees of Aries. Similarly, Sun occupying the 3rd degree of Libra will be considered as in debilitation. A planet in debilitation gives adverse results to the native. The particular degree noted in the above table denotes the exact point where it is most exalted or most debilitated.

First House stands for: Health, conduct, thinness or fatness of the body, color, qualities, self‑confidence, fame, features, caste, longevity, comforts and sorrow, brain, shape, temperament. Gemini, Libra, Aquarius and Virgo are considered strong in this house.

Second House stands for: Wealth, treasure and treasury, family, friends, animals, eyes, nose, voice, beauty, love of music, material possessions and their enjoyment, accumulated wealth, capital sale and purchase.

Third House stands for: Brothers, sisters, servants, valour, courage, actions, labour, efforts, ornaments, daring, bravery, patience, asthma, cough, consumption, breathing, practice of yoga.

Fourth House stands for: Maternal and paternal longevity, house, village, domestic animals, relatives, comfort and peace of mind, friends, mind, motherland, conveyance, transport, house, property, orchard, diseases of chest, liver, amusement, paternal property, cheating, hypocrisy, pity, liberality. This house is special for mother. Cancer, Pisces and Capricorn are the signs that get strengthened in this house.

Fifth House stands for: Education, progeny, intellect, ability for management, integrity, humility, devotion to defty, elder brother to wife, pregnancy, losing a job, means of income, unexpected gains, digestive power, qualities, speech, and fame for laborious deeds it represents.

Sixth House stands for: Enemy, worry, fear, disease, disputes, litigation, dependence, injury, younger brother to mother, pains.

Seventh House stands for: Wife, health of wife, amorous acts, daily routine, gambling, sensuous enjoyments, sex desires, private organ, trade, marriage, plies. Scorpio gets strength in this house.

Eighth House stands for: Longevity, mental anxiety, death, love of antiques, foreign travel, subtle plans, inherited property or wealth, debts, war, lost wealth, mode of death, sea travel, rectum, and its diseases.

Ninth House stands for: Luck, religion, God realization, guru, tapas, fate, divinity, sin and religious merit, luxuries, mental proclivities, start of career, pilgrimages, father, and charity. The location of Sun or Jupiter in this house is considered good in general.

Tenth House stands for: Ruling powers, honour, service, name, father, business or profession, wealth of father, Karmas good and bad, Samaj (society), government, power, enjoyment of ruling powers and leadership. Aries, Taurus and Leo are the signs that get strengthened in this house.

Eleventh House stands for: Profit, income, satisfaction of needs, hidden wealth, and wealth of government, ornaments, clothes, elephants, horses, high-class conveyances, wealth and power.

Twelfth House stands for: Loss, charity, expenditure, punishment, addiction, and relation with external things, and places, opposition from and to enemy, eye‑trouble.

Men and women born in the 12 signs as their ascendants have generally the traits and characteristics as described in our earlier post. The good and bad results of the birth charts are assessed through a synthesis of the traits of their signs and planets. Friendship or enmity between would be wife and husband or between any two persons is determined by the astrologers through this sign. In a similar manner, disease and the study of a specific limb of the body are determined and studied through this sign. This is their utility.

Friendship and Enmity ‑ The question as to what type of relation there will be between wife and husband, between a man and his lady‑love, or between one friend and the other is considered by a study of the elements represented by the signs. If the elements are mutually friendly, there will be friendship between the pairs otherwise there will be enernity between them. The elements “Earth” and “Water” are mutually friends. So also are the elements “Fire” and “Air”. On the other hand the elements earth and fire, or water and fire or water and air are mutual enemies.

Nature and Compatibility ‑To determine friendship or eternity between would‑be wife and husband or between any two persons; it is also desirable to take into account the nature of their signs (in ascendant etc.). The nature of men and women follows the nature of the signs of their birth. There is friendship between two persons of similar nature while there is enmity between two persons having signs of opposite nature.

Classification of limbs and Signs ‑ Each sign is a symbol of the limbs of the Kal‑Purusha (Time personified) e.g. Aries of head, Taurus of face and so on. A person having malefic planets in a particular sign suffers from disease etc. in the part of the body represented by the sign involved.

The results of astrology are declared through planets that have lordship over the signs. Below is shown the

Before results are deduced from the birth‑chart, it is essential to know the birth‑chart and its various houses. There are in all 12 houses in each horoscope. The first house represented by the square on the top, according to the convention followed in northern India, is called the ascendant or lagna  Every house has a name according to what marked 3, 6, 9 and 12 are called “Apoklim.”

The English terms for Kendra, Panaphara and Apoklim are Quadrant, Cadent and Succeedent respectively.

Utmost importance is given to the Kendra houses in a horoscope. The 4th and 8th houses are known by the common name of “Chaturasra.
